It seems that my days off are greeted with horrible weather lately. I’ve also been decorating, so leisure time is fairly restricted. This weekend has been dull and wet – pretty dismal. Having put down the paint pot, my wife and I decided to head out to Minions on Bodmin Moor for a short walk.
Waterproof trousers, coats and walking boots on, we headed out onto the Moor in the direction of Gold Diggings quarry,. It is north of Minions village. With swirls of mist and plenty of mizzle, the visibility wasn’t so good, but we managed to get a few nice pictures between us.
We are in the second COVID lockdown and, as well as the bad weather, there was, surprisingly, lots of people visiting. All around us we could hear children yelling out and owners calling their dogs. Maybe we all needed to stretch our legs and get some fresh air.
When we arrived at Gold Diggings, we were amazed to see some younger people swimming and diving into the quarry waters. It has been quite mild and, although most of them had wetsuits on, a few of them had just their bathers on. Very brave.
We walked back from the quarry in the direction of the Cheesewring. By keeping it and Stowe’s Hill to our left, we picked up with the disused rail path that leads back to Minions. There are normally stunning views over to Caradon Hill from here, but not today. Just a foggy backdrop over Bodmin Moor.
All in all, it was a great few hours and turned out much better than we expected.
