Christmas at Looe

It’s the run-up to Christmas, just 5 days to go, and we set off for a short walk around Looe to see the lights.

We arrived at 4pm and, after a wander around the town to look in the last few shops before they also closed for the end of a Sunday, we walked from the seafront along the river as the lights started to come on.

Luckily, we got a break in the weather, which has been terrible over the last few days. It was a nice clear sky for once, with a crescent moon and a chill in the air.

From Looe Bridge, the view back down the river with the lights on both sides was a great scene of a harbour town at Christmas. We walked over the bridge on down the other side, along the river to West Looe.

Usually, we loop around by the fire station and walk back. On this occasion, we noticed some lovely terraced cottages that line both sides of a steep incline, so up we went. For all our years of visiting and strolling around Looe, we had never noticed this street before. We’ll have to take another look around here one day. For now, it was time to head back to the car for home.

The nation was told yesterday of further COVID restrictions over the Christmas period. While Cornwall remains in Tier 1, London and the South East have been put into Tier 4 – a Tier that didn’t exist until yesterday. We are so lucky to be able to drive a short distance to see and enjoy places like Looe
